Okay, so my laundry room is a disaster zone. My idea is to get a bunch of cheap, sturdy canvas sacks or even just reusable shopping bags. Label them clearly: 'Lights,' 'Darks,' 'Colors,' 'Towels,' 'Delicates.' Then, instead of one giant hamper, everyone in the house puts their dirty clothes directly into the right bag as soon as they take them off. When it's laundry day, you just grab the 'Darks' bag, dump it in the machine, and boom – no more piles on the floor or frantic sorting right before a wash. Plus, maybe one for 'Lost Socks'?
